Aramean people: Aramean people (not to be confused with ‘Armenians’) speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They are the indigenous people of what was called in ancient times Aram- Nahrin, in our days it is called ‘Mesopotamia’.

Some Arameans today identify themselves with “Assyrians”, because of the spiritual colonial hate generating activities of the Western missionaries and diplomats in the Middle-East in 16th and 19th centuries. Other Arameans became known as “Chaldeans”. However all of them are Arameans.

In Turkey, the Arameans are called: Süryani. In Arabic they are called Al- Suryan.

1. Introduction

You are doomed, you sinful nation, you corrupt and evil people! Your sins drag you down! You have rejected the LORD, the holy God of Israel, and have turned your backs on him.   5 Why do you keep on rebelling? Do you want to be punished even more? Israel, your head is already covered with wounds, and your heart and mind are sick.   6 From head to foot there is not a healthy spot on your body. You are covered with bruises and sores and open wounds. Your wounds have not been cleaned or bandaged. No medicine has been put on them.   7 Your country has been devastated, and your cities have been burned to the ground. While you look on, foreigners take over your land and bring everything to ruin (Isaiah 1:4-7)

Not many nations have survived so much slaughtering, pogroms, discriminations, exclusion and ethnic cleansing as the Aramean people of Mesopotamia did. They have been expelled out of their indigenous homelands, became refugee at other man’s doors, lost their lands and vineyard to strangers, their sons were killed, their daughters and women raped and assumed by strangers, have terribly suffered under the activities of the colonial spiritual Western powers and became plaything in the hands of various groups and nations and have totally lost their dignity.

The sad point is that they totally are unaware of what happened to them, even now they dwell at other man’s doors and make their hands open for them. This lack of awareness reminds us of the serious warning of the Powerful God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Jeremia 6:14, They treat my people's wounds as though they were not serious, saying, 'Everything is alright! Everything is alright!' But it's not alright."   15 "Are they ashamed when they do disgusting things? No, they're not ashamed. They don't even know how to blush. So they will die with those who die. They will be brought down when I punish them," says the LORD."

One wonders what should yet happen to them to jolt them awake, because,, From head to foot there is not a healthy spot on their body”. Or perhaps is their Diaspora the last station of their long history of blood and tears?

On 26th of January 2011 the Turkish Supreme Court judged in favor of the Treasury and approved significant part of the land of St. Gabriel Monastery to be grabbed by the treasury. This is such-and-such law-suit against the Aramean monastery St. Gabriel since 2008. http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Turks_Kurds_Aramean_monastery_St_Gabriel_28_2_2009.htm#2

Since the start of the law-suits many outrageous allegations and claims were made against this ancient sanctuary. Out of all the allegations, finally four particular court cases were formulated as follows:

1. The case of the three surrounding villages: In august 2008the Land Registry General Directorate had granted more than 100 hectares of the monastery land to the villages. Of course the monastery could not accept that its land was being confiscated. Consequently, the three surrounding villages appealed to the court in Midyat, Tur Abdin (the first courts case took place at the court in Midyat on August 13, 2008)

2. The Case of Forestry Department: This strange terminology has been used by the Forestry Department to try to confiscate land of the monastery within and outside the protective wall which has been termed as “Forestry” or “woodland”. This is around 33 hectares of land. Of course the Monastery appealed against the unlawful confiscation of its property.

3. The Case of Treasury Department Lands claim: The Treasury Department claims about 24 hectares of the monastery’s property.

4. The case against the Monastery Foundation: The Treasury Department claims that the monastery Foundation has violated the forestry law by “intentional building” of a protective wall around the monastery, thereby “confiscating” public land.

It is indeed very detrimental and is clear evidence of lack of respect for human and indigenous rights to try to confiscate the Aramean indigenous lands under the pretext of “independent legal system” and “European demands”.

On 22 May, 2009, the Court in Midyat rejected the claim of the villages and ruled in favour of the Monastery and overruled the initial decision by The Land Registry General Directorate which had granted around 110 hectares of land to the villages.

These languishing law-suits would have been unnecessary, if Turkey had simply applied article 26 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous peoples.

On 26th of January 2011 the Supreme Court ruled thus in favor of Ministry of Finance (3rd law-suit). The claim of the ministry was rejected by the lower court on 24th of June 2009.

You do not need to be a lawyer to understand that this a political ruling and it has nothing to do with independent jurisdiction. It is cruel raping of justice and deep contempt to the international rules and standards.

As regards persecutions, discriminations, ethnic cleansing and exclusion of the Arameans of Aram-Nahrin, our experience from the past is that the international rules and treaties do not mean anything to Turkey.

2. Forced Islamization

The law-suits against the monastery St. Gabriel are not something new if we study the long history of persecutions of our nation in Turkey. After invading Asia Minor, the Turks started as of 16th century a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing of Aramean indigenous people. Cultural strongholds, such as Urfa, were completely uprooted from their Aramean origin, historical tombs were destroyed, churches were converted to mosques and demographical/ethnical changes were facilitated, often with full awareness of the European powers, thereby completely wiping off any remembrance to the Aramean origin. The majority of present-day inhabitants of Turkey are of Aramean or Armenian origin. They totally have nothing to do with the Turks.

Parallel to the cruel persecutions of the Aramean nation by the Turks, the Western missionaries conducted a fierce divide and rule politics, in the name of Jesus of the West, to weaken the Aramean nation in such a way that it caused their final downfall in the Middle-East.

http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Aramean_Spiritual_Genocide.htm

The persecutions, harassments, discrimination, exclusion and ethnic cleansing by the Turks for centuries has been recorded by patriarchs, bishops, priests and monks. An Aramean tribe called “Mhalmoye” in Tur Abdin was so severely persecuted by the Turks that in the 16th century they were forced to covert to the Islam. These "Mhalmoye" are known as "Ahlamu Arameans" in the annals of the Assyrian kings. Tiglath- Pilsere I (1114-1076) says about these Ahlamu Arameans " I marched against the Akhlamu Aramaeans, enemies of the god Ashur… … I crossed the Euphrates twice in one year, in pursuit of the Akhlamu Arameans".

Recently the book of Patriarch Afrem Barsauwn on the history of Tur Abdin has been translated into English. About the terror, the persecutions and forced conversion of the Akhlamu Arameans of Tur Abdin to the to Islam, we read on page 119 of his book, “……Muhallamiyya is a vast region lying to the south of Tur Abdin. One time it contained more than five hundred villages. Of these villages known to us today are: Astel, Kafar Hura, Dayr Eusebena (Zabina), Kafar Araq, Kandarib, Kafar Shama', Abshai, Shur Safah, Dayr al-Dib, Tafo (Tafi), Kafar Allab, Nonub, 'Ayn Baf, Kafar Joza, Kafar Josen (Josi), Kafar Salta, and others. Most of the inhabitants of these villages are Syrians among whom lived Muslim Kurds. There were many churches in this region and a monastery in Kafar Shama'. The largest of these villages are Estel, Shur Safah, Dayr Eusebina, Abshai and Kafar Hura.

About the year 1609 (or probably 1583) the iniquities against the Christians and their persecution by cruel Turkish governors intensified so much so that many Muhallamiiya tribes like Estel, Rashidiyya, Makashniyya, Sura, Ahmadi, Rashmal, Qabaliyya, and Lashtiyya embraced Islam to escape oppression “

Bishop Hanna Aydin says in his book, ‘Die Syrisch Orthodoxe Kirche von Antiochien’ on page 95, “ In the 16th century the Turks started with persecution of the Syrian Christians. Patriarch Ephrem writes: “When in 1583 the horrendous persecution of Christians by the Turks took place, they were driven into a corner in such a way that nobody could find a way to escape. The heinous ruler Nasuh, who carried on between 1603-1606 in the area of Amid and Mardin was described by the Patriarchs as devil. “There was no way out for the persecuted ones, but to accept Islam. Numerous villages from Antioch, Malatya to Diyarbakir went collectively over to the Islam as well as the villages between Mardin and Midyat. Their habitat is called Mahallmi or Mahallmoye, and they all speak Arabic. Currently, these Mahallami- group persecutes Christians more than Suni- Muslims and their fanaticism within the Islam is high”

These systematic persecutions and extermination by the Turks resulted in a complete demographical alternation in Turkey. In areas where Aramean and Armenian Christians were forced to the Islam, the churches were demolished and on their place mosques were build. In this way a ethnical/ spiritual cleansing was accomplished.

Please be aware that the European powers were very well aware of these cruelties and they could have stopped it if the had wanted to. What is worse is that the Turkish Sultan was incited against the Arameans by the European Missionaries hoping to convert them. Please be aware of these matters.

The climax of extermination was reached by the genocide of 1915 whereby more than 500.000 Arameans of different denominations brutally were slaughtered by the Turk and the Kurds. http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/ArameanPhysicalGenocide.htm

3. The Islamic Conference in Pakistan in 1980 and ethnic cleansing of the Arameans of Tur Abdin in Turkey.

The Turks will never satisfy and will not stop until the remaining Arameans of Tur Abdin have been removed from their indigenous fatherlands which became part of modern Turkey since 19th century.

In 1980 the meeting of Islamic conference, where all the Islamic countries participate, took place in the Pakistani city of Lahore. During this conference, the Islamic countries in the Middle-East pledged to get rid of their Christian minorities. The text reads, “The entire area (of Middle-east) by the year 2000 should completely be Islamized; that is to say that all those who are no Muslims – the Coptic Christians in Egypt, the Christians of Iraq, in Turkey. In Lebanon, Syria…. and in particular the Israeli’s should be completely exterminated”.

3.1. The Kurdish PKK separatists and Kurdish Imams

However, how would the Turks carry out the promises made in Pakistan in 1980 unnoticed and without giving raise of any suspicion? The answer: The Kurdish separatists of PKK and Kurdish Imams. The PKK was a great blessing to the Turks as regards ethnic cleansing of the Arameans of Tur Abdin in Turkey.

Special trained units of secret service, dressed as PKK or Hezbollah terrorists, started to systematically kill important Aramean leaders in Tur Abdin that utterly shocked the Aramean nation and gave them the feeling that they should leave and this is not their homeland.

In addition, the Turks could fulfil their promise thanks to the efforts and cooperation of Kurdish Imams in the region of Tur Abdin. These Imams were instructed by the Turks government in such a effective way that a abominable hate campaign was conducted against the Aramean indigenous nation in Tur Abdin in order to meet the promise made by Turkey during the meeting in Pakistan in 1980.

The result was that from 1982 a mass emigration started of the Arameans of Tur Abdin to the West. Many people never understood the real reason behind the emigration. The story was that it was because of the struggle between PKK and Turks. The real reason however had to do with Islamic conference in Pakistan in 1980.

Between 1980 and 2000 more than 90% of indigenous Arameans of Tur Abdin had left Tur Abdin for Western countries. This was in line with the promise of Turkey made during the Islamic conference in Pakistan in 1980.

More on the harassments, discrimination and killings of the Arameans of Turkey:

http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Turks_Kurds_Aramean_monastery_St_Gabriel_28_2_2009.htm

3.2. The “Assyrian” terrorists

Another nice present to the Turks was the cooperation between the apostate Arameans who call themselves “Assyrians” and the PKK as from 1993: http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Monstrous_Alliance_PKK_ADO_24_4_1993.htm

Because of the activities of “Assyrian” terrorists, in 2006 the Turkish Supreme Court added our people in Turkey to the list of terrorist organizations and with that the door was opened to deal with the remaining Arameans in Tur Abdin:

http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Article_Zaman_16_11_2006.htm

The current law-suits against the Aramean monastery St. Gabriel are clearly caused by the unholy activities of the “Assyrian” terrorists who unfortunately have free access to the St. Gabriel monastery with terrible consequences for our nation in Turkey.

The “Assyrian” terrorists have free of charge broadcasting time with PKK satellite channel ROJ-TV to commit cultural/spiritual genocide on the Aramean nation. Because of the hate-generating activities of the “Assyrian” terrorists, who present themselves as “defenders” of St. Gabriel Monastery, the monastery already have lost two lawsuits. And taking in account the immoral activities of these bandits, we should fear worst for St. Gabriel monastery. In other words: the apostate Arameans who call themselves “Assyrians” – the abominable colonial product, and are involved with terrorism are the source of problems and hatred against our people not only in Turkey but in the entire middle-east.

As long as the Aramean nation do not stand up and removes these criminals out of the nation, they will face problem, persecutions and discriminations. The real murderers of our people are the hate provoking, immoral and perverse apostate Arameans who call themselves “Assyrians”, the heinous colonial spiritual product of division and extermination.

In our article, “Arameans of Iraq: persecutions, massacres, plundering and ethnic cleansing” we also demonstrated that the real murderers, criminals and fanatics in Iraq who cause the ethnic cleansing of the Arameans of Iraq are the apostate Arameans who designate themselves as “Assyrians”: http://www.iraqichristians.info/English/Arameans_Iraq_Persecutions_Killings_Ethnic_Cleansing_29_12_2010.htm

4. Not the Turks, not the Kurds, but we should look at ourselves.

Because the Turks did not completely achieve their goal by killings, genocides and forced Islamization of the Arameans, now they want to finalize the ethnic cleansing by “civilized” methods, namely the path of “democracy” and “justice”. More than 95% of the indigenous Arameans are expelled out of the lands of their forefathers. And Turkey is eager to completely carry out the promise they made in Pakistan in 1980 and therefore all the Arameans should be expelled out of Tur Abdin. A clean method to achieve this is again to call in the help of Kurds and start law-suits against the Aramean monasteries and villages. Of course this has nothing nothing to do with justice.

There is however more going on than the mercilessness of the Turks and the Kurds who have assumed the Aramean indigenous homelands. The main reason our nation is being trampled for hundreds of years has to do with treason they committed against the Holy and the Almighty God of Abraham, Isaak and Jacob Who showed Himself to the world in Christ Jesus. Please read more on this very important issue: http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Turks_Kurds_Aramean_monastery_St_Gabriel_28_2_2009.htm#6

The worst thing is that from child to adult they do not want to know anything about the errors and treason towards the Almighty God and act as if nothing is wrong. Many of them are even boasting on their good deeds, Christian faith and self-satisfaction. However, many of them have removed Christ Jesus from their lives and call themselves "Christians" for the show.

Even now they are refugee at other man’s doors, they do not have slightest reason to ask themselves: Why did we become refugee at other man’s doors and make our hands open? Why did not our God protect us against evil forces that have invaded and assumed our homelands? On the contrary, they enjoy the “luxurious” life in the West and do not want to be bothered with these difficult questions they simply don’t want to hear anything about! And please have a look at the decadent and outrageous behavior of their men, women, daughters and sons how they bath in “luxury”.

More about this immoral behavior: http://www.aramnahrin.org/English/Glorification_PKK_GHB_ADO_Terrorist_19_6_2010.htm#5_1

Those among them who do say something about the Diaspora and the reasons behind it are the “Assyrian” terrorists. However, they do this not because they care about people, no, they do this to hide their perverse terror acts and to fool the blind people that they are fighting for their rights.

Another point is the behavior of spiritual and secular responsible ones. Many within these leaders are guilty of hatred, abuse of authority, fascism, discrimination, corruption and favoritism.

In particular there are some fascist individuals within associations, federations and other organizations who are so rotten in their spirit that their uncleanness and immorality can be smelled and noticed from far distance; that evil they are.

The problem is that these evil individuals, because of their evilness and uncleanness, provoke a horrible judgment on the blind and lax people who do not take action against these immoral individuals who are the source of hatred and division.

We learn from history that when the judgment is carried out, unfortunately not only those evil part of the nation supporting this criminals are affected, but the good and faithful part of the nation who has nothing to do with these outrageous individuals – who misuse their position within the organizations to attack righteous people, create hatred and division – are affected as well. And this perhaps explains for important part the centuries long persecutions, expelling out of their homelands, genocides and ethnic cleansing they had to suffer.

Warning and extension of the hand of the Lord to the Aramean nation:

Shameless nation, come to your senses   2 before you are driven away like chaff blown by the wind, before the burning anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day when he shows his fury” (Zephaniah 2:1-2)

"However, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, search for me, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear their prayer from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their country." (2 Chronicle 7:14)
