Aramean people: Aramean people (not to be confused with ‘Armenians’) speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They are the indigenous people of what was called in ancient times Aram- Nahrin, in our days it is called ‘Mesopotamia’. Some Arameans today identify themselves with “Assyrians”, because of the spiritual colonial hate generating activities of the Western missionaries and diplomats in the Middle-East in 16th and 19th centuries. Other Arameans became known as “Chaldeans”. However all of them are Arameans. In Turkey, the Arameans are called: Süryani. In Arabic they are called Al- Suryan. Exactly one month and one day after the dramatic appeal of Iraqi President to the United Nations, two car bombs were detonated in the neighborhood of the Green Zone in Baghdad, Iraq.
On 24th of September 2009 the President of Iraq, Mr. Jalal Talabani, made a dramatic appeal during the annual meeting of the UN to help Iraq in the struggle against terror. In his speech Mr. Talabani proposed to appoint a special UN envoy in investigating the terror attacks and try the perpetrators by a Criminal Court to be established. Exactly one month and one day after the speech of Mr. Talabani, two car bombs went off in the area of Green Zone in Baghdad killing more than 150 people and wounding 520.
The “ordinary” attacks and killings in Iraq do not attract the attention of the media anymore. Only big attacks with dozens of victims are being reported by the mass media. The horrible condition in which the Iraqi people are living is indescribable. It is seems as if peace and respect have left Iraq forever.
Though all the Iraqi suffer terribly, yet some groups have the means to defend themselves in this chaotic and complex situation where the law of the jungle I reigning supreme! The Arameans however have no means to defend themselves and rely on the protection by the central government. The government however is not able to defend itself, let alone offering minimum security to her citizens. This makes the situation of the Aramean nation, also made known as “Assyrians” and Chaldeans in some media, very fragile. For this reason, majority of them have left Iraq for neighboring countries and the West.
The Aramean indigenous people of Iraq consist of various denominations and are historical termed as “West- Arameans” and “East- Arameans”, namely:
The West- Aramean Syrian Orthodox The West- Aramean Syrian Catholics The West- Aramean Melkites The East- Aramean Nestorian Chaldeans The East- Aramean Nestorian Assyrians
Although exact numbers are unknown, however before 2003, there were around 800.000 Arameans in Iraq. Their number is unfortunately reduced to 400.000 or even less.
The terms “East- “ and “West- Arameans” go back to the time of early Christianity where the Aramean indigenous nation was geographically termed as such. Roughly speaking the Euphrates River was the border. Those Arameans living Eastern of Euphrates, thus living in Persia, were termed “East- Arameans” and those living Western of Euphrates, thus in Roman Empire, were called “Western- Arameans”.
The designations “Chaldeans” and “Assyrians” for the eastern Arameans go back to the Western colonial activities of the 16th (France + Catholic missionaries) and 19th (Great Britain + Anglican missionaries) centuries. The ecclesiastical and political Western powers closely worked together and setup camps in Turkey, Iraq, and Iran where the Aramean children were “educated” through which they were completely uprooted from their Aramean origin. They thereby planted a horrible form of fanaticism in their hearts which caused them to display an immense aversion to their Aramean origin.
In the year 1553 the Western Catholic missionaries together with France brainwashed a part of the East- Aramean clergy by means of bribery to call themselves “Chaldeans” with the result that the Aramaic language became known as “Chaldean” language and a part of the Aramean nation became known as “Chaldean” nation in some parts of the Western literature, the first attack on the Aramean heritage.
As a result of mutual hatred and competition between the Western Catholics and Protestants, in the late 19th century the same process was repeated, this time by the Anglican missionaries and Great Britain, and the other part of the East- Aramean “Nestorian” tribes of Hakkari (bordering Turkey and Iraq) and Urmia (Iran) to call themselves "Assyrians"- a term which was used purely geographically and only applied to the "Nestorians". The result was that Aramaic became known as “Assyrian” language and the Aramean nation as the “Assyrian” nation- this was the second and more severe attack on the Aramean heritage- a kind of spiritual genocide.

**************************************************************** IRAQ REQUESTS UN SET UP INDEPENDENT COMMISSION TO PROBE DEADLY TERROR ATTACKS
(http://www.un.org/) New York, Sep 24 2009 8:11PM
Iraq’s President today called on the United Nations to establish an independent international commission to probe a series of deadly bombings and other terrorist attacks in the country since the start of last year that he said can only have been carried out with the help of external forces.
Jalal Talabani the General Assembly’s annual high-level segment that the scope and nature of the crimes – including the so-called Bloody Wednesday explosions last month that killed around 100 people and targeted leading Government ministries in the capital, Baghdad – meant an outside investigation was necessary.
“The Iraqi Government finds
itself obliged to resort to the United Nations to protect its people and
stop the bleeding of innocent Iraqis,” he said, calling on Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon to appoint a senior official “to evaluate the extent of foreign
intervention that threatens the security and integrity of Iraq.” Once the commission has carried
out its work, then a special international criminal court should be set up
to try those accused of committing the crimes, he said. Mr. Talabani said the bombings
and attacks in 2008 and 2009 had “reached the level of genocide and crimes
against humanity subject to punishment under international law. “We believe these acts at this
level of organization, complexity and magnitude cannot be planned, funded
and implemented without support of external forces and parties and primary
investigations indicate the involvement of external parties in the process.” The Iraqi President also called
on neighbouring countries and other States to cooperate more with Baghdad
“to control Iraq’s borders, exchange information, coordinate efforts, and
prevent the groups that support terrorism and work against Iraq under any
cover.” In his address Mr. Talabani also
stated that Iraq has made important progress over the past 12 months,
notably by taking greater responsibility for its own security and signing an
agreement with the United States on the withdrawal of US troops. The most important immediate
challenge will be legislative polls scheduled to be held across Iraq in
January 2010, he said. “The success of these elections will put the current political regime based on democracy, pluralism and the peaceful transfer of power on the right path. The success of the elections will transfer the political process from the establishment stage to one of permanence and stability and will promote stability and security in Iraq.”
